World Music Awards 2003

The 15th annual World Music Awards took place at Monte Carlo's Sporting Club, Sunday October 12th 2003. The event awards the best selling artists in their own territories and around the world based on sales figures supplied by the International Federation of Phonographic Industries (IFPI.) It is aired on major TV networks around the world including the UK's VH1 & Channel 5 and in the US the show is syndicated by Warner Brothers TV.

Pop stars, celebrities and top models flock to the event. Pictured left is model Heidi Klum immersed in the media scrum.

Pink effervesced as she won the award for 'Best American Pop/Rock Female' artist.

Pink revealed that she had written to Prince William to decline an invitation to perform at his birthday party unless he gave up hunting. She also says that collaborating with Steve Tyler of Aerosmith was a career highlight for her. To see more of Pink, click here.

UK based Indian rapper Panjabi MC picked up the award for 'Best Indian Artist.'

According to Panjabi MC, his hit single 'Mundian To Bach Ke' (Beware Of The Boys) is crossing over world-wide 'faster than Justin Timberlake.'

George Benson is obviously worried about finding space on his mantelpiece for yet another award in a career which has seen him receiving over 85 other 'gongs.'

George Benson and Chaka Khan received this year's two 'Legend' awards for lifetime achievement.

Rap music was affirmed as a dominant force in modern pop. 50 Cent (pictured left) was the evening's biggest winner picking up five awards (R&B, Rap/Hip Hop, Male Artist, New Artist and Best Artist of 2003.)

Eminem who did not attend won two awards for Best American Pop/Rock Male Artist and World's Best Pop/Rock Artist.

HSH Prince Albert of Monaco (pictured right) is official patron of the event. Proceeds from ticket sales this year are split evenly between the construction of a Princess Grace clinic in Africa and Rupert Everett's charity fund for an existing AIDS hospital in Africa.

Rupert Everett presented the evening alongside Anna Kournikova and Vivica A. Fox

Peter was overheard saying, 'Don't look now, its that bloke from Caroline South with a camera.'

Meanwhile in the press room Caroline South presenter Mark Dezzani meets 'legend' George Benson.

'Meeting one of my musical heroes really made my hair stand on end,' commented Mark.
