Radio Caroline 21st
Century Style - Dropping Anchor in Cyberspace
Radio Caroline started on Easter Sunday
1964 from a ship anchored in international waters off the Essex, UK coast. Quickly
accumulating an audience of millions and gaining world-wide attention as a
"pirate-ship", Caroline revolutionised music radio in Europe with cutting edge
programming free from any political or government influence. Ultimately Caroline was
legislated out of business as an offshore radio station in 1990. Since 1998, Radio
Caroline has been broadcasting legally from studios in the Maidstone Television Centre,
across Europe via the Astra satellite, over the USA on the Satcom C3 satellite and
world-wide on the Internet (
www.radiocaroline.co.uk ).
With the launch of a 24/7 digital service
on Astra 19.2° May 1st 2001, the legendary Radio Caroline reaches millions of
homes throughout Europe including digital subscribers in France, Germany, Spain, Holland,
Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The 88.4 MHz outlet reaches a potential audience
of 2 million residents in the South of France and the Italian Riviera plus an annual
tourist influx of greater than 10 million visitors** to the region.
