Pink Floyd - Echoes (EMI): Pink Floyd celebrate a
cosmic musical journey spanning 35 years on this new double CD compilation. The graphics
are designed by Storm Thorgerson who along with his former design partnership Hipgnosis
have designed all Floyd albums (except The Wall : Gerald Scarfe) since their 1968
album Saucerful Of Secrets. This compilation is noted for its non-chronological
sequence of tracks. |

disillusionment expressed on Pulp's last album This Is Hardcore, Jarvis Cocker
comes back down to earth and hugs trees on Pulp's new album. 'This record deals with

Ryan Adams - Gold (Universal) The brilliant second
album from the former leader of Chicago based alt country band Whiskeytown. Hailing from
North Carolina, Ryan Adams is being compared with the likes of Neil Young and Pete
Townshend. The album includes stomping songs like the opener New York, New York to
the plaintive ballad Sylvia Plath. |

tunes includes the two singles Sing and Side. |

The Strokes Debut album from Sixties garage-punk-style
quintet from New York has since signed to RCA and released their full-length debut. The
Strokes appear to be more than capable of living up to the hype. Having got on to the
cover of Rolling Stone before their major label deal with RCA, they will be doing the
other must-do in the States, appearing on NBC's Saturday Night Live 19th January. |

of Britain's leading rock bands, these Birmingham boys made their debut in 1989. This
latest album hails a consolidation of the band's sustained success, thanks to strong

weeks when our humble chart began. |

St. Germain - Tourist (Blue Note) : Named after the
bohemian left bank quarter of Paris, St. Germain have justifiably been signed by the
revered Blue Note specialist jazz label. This French band have been enthusing audiences
with their live performances combining pacey melodic jazz riffs with contemporary
syncopated dance beats. Their musicianship is outstanding with an exceptional energy. Need
we say more to recommend this groundbreaking album. |

Dave Matthews Band - Everyday (RCA/BMG) : This is the
album which will take the Dave Matthews Band beyond their very large core fan base and
elevate them to mega-star status, and as ubiquitous as Floyd, Zeppelin and U2. Produced by
Glen Ballard who also co-wrote the songs with Dave Matthews, this is already a classic
album. Each song is superb. Carlos Santana fans should check out the sublime track Mother,

Manu Chao - Esperanza (Virgin) : The second solo album
from former frontman of French band Mano Negra. This second album follows up on the same
mix of Latino, reggae and techno pop with a mix of Spanish, French and English lyrics
which appears on Manu's critically acclaimed first album Clandestino. A European mega-star
the US and UK are picking up on Manu Chao's vibes. Of course you heard it first on
Caroline ! |

Depeche Mode - Exciter (Mute / Virgin) : You've heard
the single Dream On, now check out the album. Every track is a winner, but the sublime
Freelove is worth a special mention as a beautiful techno-ballad. Depeche Mode continue to
innovate without leaving their pop sensibility and superb songwriting skills behind. 3

Substitute - The Songs Of The Who (Edel) : Although
some of these covers serve to prove that The Who are inimitable, there are many pleasing
versions and a couple of inspired reinterpretations of Who classics. David Bowie's cosmic
take of Pictures Of Lily, Cast's The Seeker, Stereophonics Who Are You , Paul Weller's
Circle's, Sheryl Crow's interpretation of Behind Blue Eyes and Phish's 5.15 are all
excellent. |

band must play their acclaimed live concerts when record company A&R execs are all on
holiday. Still awaiting a big label deal, this Chicago based mid-west rock band are gifted
